Front Door Hardware

Do you need to replace the hardware for your front door? Read this article by a Peterkort Woods owner, Warren D.

Additional from Warren:

“I have received a couple of calls looking for replacement latches from neighbors with Forest units on the south side of Windwood.  It turns out that the handle sets originally installed in most of those units are not the Better Home Products ones, but made by Quikset (labeled very faintly on the top on the exterior side).  They are two separate pieces on the exterior rather than as one piece.  If you have the Quickset handle sets the latches I have will not fit them, but you can get replacement handle sets at Home Depot or online (where you may be able to find the latches).”

  1. I still have 10 of the pairs of latches left, so let me know if you want to change yours. Unfortunately the locksets with both of the latches I replaced soon after developed other problems. On the first one the inside handle spring recently broke. The replacement cost $50 (including shipping). Note that the parts on these locksets are proprietary, so the local locksmiths don’t carry them.

It could well be that they are just at the end of their useful lives and that new latches with new springs put stress on other parts. However, it is easy to replace the latches, so it’s worth a try if yours is not working right.
